About

A Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) is a forward planning tool that:

• guides development for a specified area; 
• formulates a spatial vision for the desired future of that area; and 
• provides stakeholders with policy statements and guidelines to inform decision-making and direct investment for that area.
  

Other frameworks, plans, policies and guideline documents with various titles took on the role of a LSDF in the past. All of these documents aimed to guide spatial development, and provide further detail and contextualised guidance based off higher order spatial policies, including the relevant District Plan (DSDF) and the Municipal Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) in the same way as a LSDF. 

Some of the areas listed below have an active LSDF development process underway and formal approval for the LSDF is still pending. These LSDFs will include “(In progress)” in the title.
